Positive experiences, security and the certainty of being protected in every situation and being able to rely on the consistent and fair leadership of its human enable the Kooikerhondje to become a cheerful social partner with a strong character.

Kooikerhondjes learn quickly, are interested in everything, observe closely and react quickly. Training with motivation through positive reinforcement supports the development of a happy and hard-working dog.

Ideally, development is already encouraged at the breeder. When a Kooikerhondje moves into its new home, an open heart with a lot of understanding and consideration for the emotions and needs of the animal are essential. The dog now needs a lot of understanding, is dependent on its new owners and needs their support. As a dog owner, it is important to always take a critical look at your own behaviour and be prepared to rethink and work on yourself if something doesn't work as desired. We need to be predictable for the dog and have our own emotions under control. During the socialisation phase, the puppy needs all the time and attention in the world. A structured daily routine is ideal.

If we dog owners are understandable to our Kooikerhondjes, they show the desired reaction and listen with pleasure to every friendly word spoken. If the dog doesn't react as expected, the level of training may not yet be as advanced. Perhaps we have gone one step too far or have not yet trained under distraction? First and foremost, we must always look for the fault in ourselves. Taking a break or simplifying the training can sometimes work wonders.
