Dog sports and activities
Agility is a wonderful dog sport that is great fun for the Kooikerhondje, as long as the handler conveys a lot of joy, fun and enthusiasm.
The aim of agility is to run through a course with various obstacles such as tunnels, hurdles and slalom poles as quickly and faultlessly as possible, with the dog being guided by the owner. The dog must overcome all the obstacles in the correct order and without making any mistakes.
However, agility is more than just a dog sport. It promotes the dog's physical fitness and coordination and offers the owner a challenging workout as well as an opportunity to spend time together with their four-legged friend.
Working together as a team and mutual trust is crucial, which deepens the bond between humans and dogs.
Film dog training is fun, builds trust and promotes the dog-human relationship. It is an exciting activity for the lively Kooikerhondje. Various tricks and behaviours are practised "just" for fun or specifically for the film animal file, depending on your mood. With film dog training, the dog learns to master everyday situations and to train the mind and body. You can find more information at:
Dog Dancing is a dog sport where you can "dance" with your dog. But not completely free: various obedience exercises are combined with music. Dog Dancing is therefore a perfect combination of obedience training and creative fun, which is ideal for the Kooikerhondje. Here too, the focus is on fun and games with lots of motivation and positive reinforcement. The dog and handler should present a harmonious picture.
Combining commands with music was first tried out with horses in Great Britain. In 1990, Mary Ray (a successful and well-known dog trainer from Great Britain) performed such a "dance" with a dog for the first time.
Movement is life! Everyone knows the saying: "If you rest, you rust." Hiking in nature is more than just exercise. It not only keeps the body fit, but is also good for the soul.
Hiking with a dog is a fascinating experience. It touches our senses and our soul. It frees our thoughts and makes us forget everything around us. Enjoying the beauty of nature together with your dog is pure happiness.
The Kooikerhondje goes along with everything the handler offers it. From short to long, over hill and dale, but the Kooikerhondje also loves walking on flat terrain. Because the greatest joy for him is to do something with his human.
Mantrailing is a useful leisure activity for the Kooikerhondje and is incredibly fun for both humans and dogs.
In this form of nose work, the dog learns to pick up the scent of a specific person using a scent carrier (e.g. scarf, glove) and to find that person. The so-called trails (= scent trail) can run through forests, parks, housing estates or even through urban areas.
The dog is always kept on a lead by its owner. Strangers, friends or family serve as hiding persons.
Dummy training comes from hunting and is a popular dog sport that is particularly suitable for the Kooikerhondje, which likes to move around and use its nose. Dummy training not only strengthens the dog's self-confidence, but also promotes interaction with its human.
Dummy training is a fun and species-appropriate way to keep your Kooikerhondje busy. It also challenges the dog's typical abilities.
Advanced dummy training also involves the Kooikerhondje moving out of sight and searching for the dummy in secluded places.
As with all other dog sports, dog show training promotes the dog's intelligence and strengthens the social bond between dog owner and dog. The joy and fun of training are always at the forefront.
In addition, regular show training gives your Kooikerhondje the routine to keep calm even in difficult situations in the ring and to stay focussed on the individual presentation.
There are many other dog sports and leisure activities. It would go beyond the scope of our website to list them all. Everything that is fun for dogs and humans is possible. The focus is always on loving consistency and the joy of doing things together.
