  09:00 a.m. X-ray appointment at the vet. Alva is doing well, the amniotic fluid is clear, the heart sounds are clearly audible and visible in the supplementary ultrasound.

  Between days 49 and 54, the fetuses reach around 75% of their birth weight. The puppies' full body hair is well developed. The movement of the puppies in the womb is easily recognizable when you carefully place your flat hand on the bitch's belly. The bitch must be completely relaxed for this.

  Alva has really grown this week. The increase in her lumbar region is clearly visible. She is still very cuddly and sleeps a lot. She loves it when we stroke her belly—she's just like a little princess...

  The bitch's teats are developing. The milk lines are growing. In bitches, an increase in abdominal girth can be observed when the litter is of average size. From day 42 onwards, the puppy's skeleton is visible on X-rays. Between days 43 and 48, the uterus takes up about two-thirds of the abdominal cavity. The bones strengthen. The puppies can now be easily felt under the abdominal wall. The hair on the bitch's belly falls out.

  It is possible that she was fed too much last week. Nevertheless, we will leave the amount unchanged. Alva is eating well again and on her own. She is affectionate and cuddly, and keeps showing her belly.

  The heartbeat of the fetuses can be heard with a stethoscope between days 33 and 35. The bitch's teats are getting darker and swollen. By the end of the week, the fetuses will be about 6.5 cm in size. The bitch's teats are developing an areola. The milk lines are growing. The increase in the lumbar region is clearly visible.

  From day 26 onwards, experts can determine whether the bitch is pregnant by checking her pulse. From day 28 onwards, food portions can be increased.

  This week, the skull and jaw develop. The swelling of the female's vulva becomes more noticeable. The dog's back becomes wider. Between days 30-32, embryonic development is complete and the basic features of the puppy's final body shape are recognizable.

  Alva's first day of heat

  Fertilizable eggs are produced between the 8th and 15th day of heat. The time of ovulation can be determined by taking a blood sample to measure the progesterone level at the vet. Once the bitch reaches a progesterone level of 5-12 ng/ml, she can be mated. The stud dog Djadi stayed with us for 10 days during our vacation this time. That's why we deliberately decided not to have the progesterone level tested.
