  Day 61

  Alva's body temperature is 37.8 C°. Today at 2:00 p.m., the temperature dropped to 36.9 C°. This means that the birth will occur within the next 24 hours. She now weighs 10 kg.

  Day 59

  Our morning ritual consists of a cuddle session on the bed. For the first time, Alva did not join the cuddling. Also, she remained in her box during my breakfast time. However, Alva gratefully accepted the cuddles in her box. The early walk and her eating behaviour was as usual.

  Alva's weight is now 9.4 kg. She is still in great form. She is now allowed to be in the large dog crate in the car so that she has enough space for herself. Our princess seems to be very proud of her condition.

  Alva sleeps often and is not as keen anymore when I ask for a walk. Her weight is now 9,3 kg.

  Alva has calmed down a bit. She spends a lot of time in the office, where the whelping box and her beloved dog crate are located.

  Today, we have the ultrasound examination. We are pretty sure that Alva is pregnant. However, she also could be a phantom pregnancy. The ultrasound provides clarity: Alva is pregnant with three puppies 😊 We are very happy!

  We have noticed that Alva is very affectionate and cuddly and is eating much better. Alva's teats are slightly enlarged. She seems more confident to us.

  Still unsuccessful mating attempts in the morning, although Alva and Dizel were still willing. We called Sabina Leuenberger, who explained that the vulva of the female dog must rise when she is ready to mate. If the vulva goes down or does not react when touched, the male dog cannot mate. Ginnie touched Alva's vulva – nothing happened, or rather, it remained down. The oestrus is therefore already over. 11:00 a.m. return journey.

  Mating behaviour is becoming more intense. Progesterone test on the foreleg at 09:00 h 13.8 nmol/l, or 4.33 ng/ml. The vet recommends a repeat progesterone level on Monday morning, then departure for Denmark. I told her that we would leave earlier. Sabina Leuenberger confirmed this on the phone call. She recommended it would be good if Alva were mated Sunday evening and Monday. We decided to leave on Sunday morning after Flame and Piraya were placed at Daniel's sister's place.
